Crowns

    A musical tribute to the fabulous church hats and the African-American women for whom they are symbolic crowns, a means to express themselves in the presence of God. The story of a Brooklyn girl, staying with her grandmother in the South following a tragedy, is a springboard for an exploration of black cultural history and identity.

    Tickets $13 for adults, $10 for seniors (65+) and juniors (under 18).

    Cassandra Berry (Lucille) is making her first appearance at GLCT. She is a resident of Denton and she is very active in her church and her community. One of her favorite roles was appearing as one of the women in Smoky Joe’s Café . Cassandra would like to dedicate her performance to her family and her two sons, one of which is a graduating senior.
    Chimberly Carter (Velma) is proud to make her debut at GLCT. She was previously seen in Dallas Children’s Theater Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters. She has performed throughout the metroplex in Rockin’ Christmas Party, A Brief History of White Music, in which she won a 2007 Leon Rabin Nomination. She has also appeared in Theater 3’s production of Caroline or Change, and for TFM Productions of Dreamgirls and Once on this Island. She would like to dedicate this show to the women of the Flakes family and the infamous “Crowns” they wear.
    Archie K. Milton (Man) a New Orleans native transplanted to Lewisville is making his debut at GLCT. He is an instrumental music teacher (40 years). He now works with students at The Education Centers in Lewisville and Denton. He is a member of the Fellowship Church Praise Team. Archie is an expert piano tuner/technician, producer of ARSi Records, gospel recording artist, and proud to work with cast of Crowns, his wife and daughter.
    Simone L. Milton (Jeanette) is a New Orleans native teaching in Lewisville ISD. Simone was a featured dancer in the movie, Ray, spent three years in a West African dance troupe and also played a supporting role in Ragtime. She is thrilled to perform with her parents and such a great cast.
    Simonia E. Milton (Mabel), a New Orleans native transplanted to Lewisville since Kartina, is making her debut at GLCT. She is a retired vocal music teacher (35 years). She’s a gospel recording artist, runs a private music studio, and is a member of the Fellowship Church Praise Team. She also co-authored the music text for “Louisiana Music Literacy”. Simonia is proud to work the cast of Crownswhich includes her husband and daughter.
    Vincent Powell (Preacher/Teddy) is a Houston native and a student at the University of North Texas majoring in Radio, Television, and Film. He has been a performer for as long as he can remember. He gives glory to God and thanks his parents for believing in him, and he appreciates everyone who has encouraged him along the way.
    Aloria Prince (Yolanda) is an honor student in Lewisville ISD. Her performances include: Star Tracks Exposition Menace, Trails and Tribulations of Fairy Tale Court,  Christmas at the OK Corral, and the Flower Mound Actor’s Conservatory Theater’s presentation of Twelve Dancing Princes. Aloria has been dancing for ten years and playing piano is her joy. She began acting at Westside Baptist church where she sings in the choir and performs in the Christmas plays. Aloria thanks God and her family for their support and love. 

    Melba Spears  (Mother Shaw) has a love of music. She plays the organ, piano, and keyboards. She played her first song at the age of 4 years old. Melba performed in the Eiseman Theater production of Walk a Mile in My Shoes where she played Reverend DJ. The character of Mother Shaw is near and dear to Melba’s heart. When she played the role at the AACT Festival in Plano, she won a best actor award. She would like to dedicate her performance to her loving family and her little beta fish, Sammy.

    Alycia Watts (Wanda) is proud to make her debut at GLCT. Alycia is a middle school teacher and gifted hair stylist. She sings in the choir and works with the youth at her church. She would like to dedicate her performance to her husband and her family. Alycia is a Lewisville resident and could not be more excited about being in Crowns.

    Theresa Ferrell Buntain (Director/Costumes) is making her fourth appearance as a director for GLCT. Her other GLCT credits include The Sound of Music, Sweet and Hot, the Music of Harold Arlen, and Proof. She has performed in community theaters in Plano, Irving, Richardson, and Garland. Theresa and her husband Richard have been Lewisville residents for 25 years.

    Deidre Marshall (Assistant Director) is working behind the scenes for the first time in community theater with this production of Crowns. Her past experiences include acting in local theater, television, and industrials. She first worked with Theresa Ferrell in Plano Repertory’s production of To Kill a Mockingbird. She welcomes the opportunity to work with her again.
    Richard Buntain (Musical Director)  has been musical directing for more than 20 years. His GLCT credits include The Sound of Music, They’re Playing Our Song, Sweet and Hot, the Music of Harold Arlen, and Annie. Richard and his wife live in Lewisville and they have 3 daughters and one grandson named Dominic.
