Pride & Prejudice

Adapted from the classic novel by Jane Austen
and Directed by M. Shane Hurst

February 13—March 1, 2009

Something borrowed...We borrow from the world of classic literature Miss Jane Austen’s story of love and family.

Mrs. Bennett is determined to get her daughters married. Jane, Elizabeth and Lydia are likely looking girls in a period when a woman's one possible career is matrimony. To be a wife was success. Anything else was failure. Jane and her Mr. Bingley and Lydia with her Mr. Wickham are quite content with things as they are, but not Elizabeth! She actually refuses to marry Mr. Collins, whom she openly deplores, and Mr. Darcy, whom she secretly adores. The play is the story of the duel between Elizabeth and her pride and Darcy and his prejudice. Each gives in before the evening is over and pride and prejudice meet halfway.

Tickets $13 for adults, $10 for seniors (65+) and juniors (under 18).
Showtimes: Friday & Saturday nights at 8:00 p.m., Sunday afternoons at 3:00 p.m.

Nelson Wilson (Mr. Bennet) – You've probably seen Nelson onstage at GLCT sometime in the past. It might have been in Sylvia, or Gypsy, or most recently as Charles in Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit. Once again, he has pulled out his best British accent for the role of Mr. Bennet. Back in the day, Nelson worked with his wife Penny on Broadway and stage managed at Radio City Music Hall. Congrats, Miss Penny, on another year!! And, thank you Shane, for another turn on the stage!
Penny Wilson (Mrs. Bennet) – As a director/choreographer/performer, God has blessed “Miss Penny” with a lifelong career that includes Broadway, National Tours and 30+ shows with Dallas Summer Musicals. She has also been with Barney the Dinosaur since the beginning (June 1988). Her biggest blessing is her family – husband Nelson (my dear, Mr. Bennet), children Robbie and Rebecca (Little Bit) and her 2 grandkids. What an awesome life!
Jenny Credeur (Jane Bennet) –graduated with a B.A. in Theatre from the College of Santa Fe. Favorite roles include Titania/Hippolyta in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Alice in You Can’t Take It With You and Emily Webb in Our Town. She would like to thank Shane, Ande, the cast, her family and friends for their constant love, support and encouragement.
Chelsea Duncan (Elizabeth Bennet) –is delighted to be returning to GLCT and is ecstatic to be playing one of her favorite literary characters. Other favorite shows in which she has performed are The Foreigner, The Book of Job, The Sound of Music, and Oliver! Thanks to Shane for casting her in one of her dream roles! Soli Deo Gloria!
Hannah Bowen (Mary Bennet) –is in her sophomore year at Coram Deo Academy. She made her debut with the ACT as Dwalin in The Hobbit. Since then she has done several Shakespearian performances at her school as well as Eliza in My Fair Lady. Hannah has also done local theatre in Beauty and the Beast and The Sound of Music. She plays the piano, the clarinet, and is taking vocal lessons. This is her first production at the GLCT and she has so enjoyed the cast and crew.
Savannah Hawkins (Catherine Bennet) –is a 10th grade home school student whose pass-times include reading, writing, crocheting, and going to youth dances. She has been seen most recently in The ACT's production of Twelve Dancing Princesses (Princess Georgiana). Pride and Prejudice has been her favorite love story since she was ten. This is Savannah's first production at the GLCT.
Madison Michel (Lydia Bennet) – was brought to the theatre by her mom for her first production at GLCT. She loves the role of Lydia as well as the accent that comes with it. She had done various plays and musicals in the community and at school and has the strange habit of random bursting into song. Madison is looking forward to many more plays and musicals in the future!
David Johnson (Fitzwilliam Darcy) – David is pleased to be making his debut at GLCT. He was most recently seen in RCT's production of Thoroughly Modern Millie (Trevor Graydon). Other favorite roles and venues include Pirates of Penzance at ICT, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Adam)at Artisan Center Theater, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (Gooper) at Runway Theater, Monty Python Madness in Grapevine, and Les Miserables in Germany.

Justin Lucas (Mr. Bingley) – is originally from Tulsa, OK and is in his second theatrical performance. His first was last year, playing Chad Danforth in the Tulsa premiere of High School Musical. Justin graduated from The University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science. In his spare time, Justin likes to play sports, read for leisure, and hang out with friends and family.

Having graduated from high school at the age of 15 he is currently an undergraduate student at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT studying Microbiology in the Pre-Med program. He is also an Eagle Scout and enjoys scouting and the outdoors. His other hobbies include: Trap shooting, cars, and computers/electronics.

Her last performance was this last summer in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. She enjoys musical theatre, golf, mandolin lessons, singing solo in church and her grandchildren!
Bill Thorne (Sir William Lucas) – along with his wife Nancy, he has been involved with GLCT for over 25 years. Bill is happy to be back in front of the footlights. As Treasurer of GLCT, he rarely has time for 'hamming it up' on stage. Bill's many acting credits include the roles of Boolie (Driving Miss Daisy), Capt'n Keller (The Miracle Worker), Papa Bear (The Trial of Goldilocks), Owen Musser (The Foreigner), the Prosecutor (To Kill A Mockingbird), and Duke (MASH). It is a great experience working with this impressive cast on a local adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel.
Pam Michel (Mrs. Gardiner) – was last at GLCT in Smoke on the Mountain (Vera). This time is even more fun because her daughter is in the production as well. Since musicals are her preferred genre, Pride & Prejudice has been a challenging change and the British dialect has added to the pleasure. Thanks to hubby Matt for putting up with our schedule and dialect practice!
Todd Brewster (Mr. Gardiner) –returns to GLCT where he last appeared as the Commodore in The Uninvited. He appeared as the grandfather right after his role as Joel, a twenty something year-old in The Renaissance Birth at the Courtyard Theater in Plano. Jocelyn Allgood (Mrs. Reynolds) –is thrilled to be a part of this production in her first show here at GLCT. She would like to thank her directors, the cast and most of all, the theatre-goers for making her debut at GLCT a memorable experience. “I hope to see you again!”

Connie Salsman (Lady Catherine de Bourgh/Costume Designer) appears in a rare onstage role in this production. Since having appeared in You Can't Take it With You (Penny) several years ago, she has spent most of her time backstage. She is fresh from directing GLCT’s Christmas production, Traveling Travesty, and looking forward to taking her turn on the boards. She is also responsible for the costume design and much of the sewing. As always, her patient husband Rick and her awesome grandson Aidan are her biggest supporters. She is also grateful for the help of her parents, Bo & Dot Jackson on this show

Ande Bewley (AD/SM, Props) –is proud to be back at GLCT working with Shane and this amazing cast. At GLCT, she has worked as ASM (Guys & Dolls), SM (Cohan Review), Property Mistress (Barefoot in the Park), Set Dresser (The Uninvited) and AD/SM & Miss Cratchitt (Gypsy: A Musical Fable). Next she can be seen on the boards in Live from Collin County, a fundraiser for Collin County charities. M. Shane Hurst (Director/Playwright/Sound Designer) –is proud (and perhaps a little prejudiced) to be directing at GLCT once again. His previous directorial endeavors for the theatre include A Grand Night for Singing, Once upon a Mattress, Smoke on the Mountain, and Gypsy; he has also appeared on the GLCT stage as Oscar in Sweet Charity and Big Jule in Guys and Dolls. Shane has acted in, directed, and music directed numerous musicals, plays, and operas at various theatres in the Metroplex but is always glad to return to GLCT. He teaches music at Cedar Valley College and Dallas Baptist University and serves as worship leader at Chapel in the Woods Bible Church. In his next project he will appear as “The Groom” in His Wedding, which takes place one week after Pride and Prejudice closes—so he would like to dedicate this show to the lovely and long-suffering Nissa Grover. As Darcy says to Elizabeth when asked when he first started to love her, “I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the look, or the words, which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun.” May God see us through to the end.

John Damian Sr. (Technical Director) has had the pleasure of working at GLCT for nearly ten years. John has been an avid lighting designer for many shows including The Sound of Music, Cactus Flower, The Rainmaker, Nuncrackers, Enchanted April and 84 Charing Cross Road. He has worked sets, lights and the many renovation projects for the theatre. John realizes that without his wife and family’s support, he would not be able to continue to enjoy this wondrous adventure.

George Redford (Set Designer) has been involved with GLCT for many years, as a board member, behind the scenes and on stage. In his daily life, George is an architect for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
